Call for Casino Volunteers

We are holding our casino August 11 – 12, 2022 at the Starlight Casino (West Edmonton Mall) in Edmonton, and we’ll need volunteers to make it a success! Our casinos bring in approximately $80,000 over two years, which goes a long way in helping the WGA provide programs and services. We are currently scheduling volunteers! WGA members are required for key positions, but others may be filled by anyone, so please share our call far and wide. We need at least five key positions filled by June 1, so early sign–ups are greatly appreciated. Jaspreet Singh, author of My Mother, My Translator(Vehicule Press), received The 2022 City of Calgary W.O. Mitchell Book Prize. The Writers’ Guild of Alberta Announces the 2022 Golden Pen Award Recipient

The Writers’ Guild of Alberta Golden Pen Award is presented to acknowledge the lifetime achievements of outstanding Alberta writers. Past recipients are W.O. Mitchell, Grant MacEwan, Rudy Wiebe, Myrna Kostash, Robert Kroetsch, Merna Summers, Aritha van Herk, Fred Stenson, George Melnyk, Alice Major, Betty Jane Hegerat, Greg Hollingshead, Candas Jane Dorsey, Cecelia Frey, Bob Stallworthy and Vivian Hansen. This year’s recipient is Chris Wiseman. Dr. Chris Wiseman came to Alberta and Canada in 1969 to teach English at the University of Calgary.
