Biography | Born in the Summer of Love in the City of Sin (Amsterdam, the Netherlands), Dymphny Dronyk is a writer, artist, mediator and mother. She is passionate about the magic of story and has woven words for money (journalism, corporate writing) and for love (poetry, fiction, drama, mystery novels) for over 25 years. Dymphny has always written the land believing that our sense of place informs both our art and our life choices. She currently lives in Calgary, Alberta, nestled in a green neighbourhood in the crook of magnificent Nose Hill. With Edmonton poet Angela Kublik, she is the co-publisher of House of Blue Skies, and co-editor of the bestselling anthologies Writing the Land Alberta Through its Poets (2008) and Home and Away Alberta Poets Muse on the Meaning of Home (2010). In her non-poetic life, Dymphny has specialized in stakeholder and community relations, as well as crisis communication and emergency preparedness, for both corporate and non-profit sectors for over 18 years. Dymphnys international communications expertise includes a background in journalism and public relations, and ranges from consensus building with industry, schools, municipalities and First Nations communities, to event facilitation, and board and policy development. From 1993 till 2010, she was an organizer and participant in numerous fundraisers in the Peace Country of northern Aberta, including the Vagina Monologues and Hearts Journey concerts to benefit Odyssey House; Red Cross Rocks youth festivals; Power of the Land benefit concerts on behalf of the Grande Prairie Farmers Market , as well as Western Swing a border crossing celebration of Prairie poets during National Poetry Month. She misses the big hearts and fabulous skies of the North. She is co-founder of the RE:act Art & Community Together Collective, with Calgary Poet Laureate Kris Demeanor, Tyler Perry, Rob Omura and Bridget Honch. The RE:act Collective supports the Public Poetry Initiative by creating innovative events and happenings throughout the City of Calgary. Dymphny has published articles, fiction and poetry in magazines and newspapers in Europe and in North America since 1984. She was the founder and publisher of Between Gynes Magazine in Victoria in 1990-1992, and the co-editor of Art of the Peace Magazine in 2003-2004. |
