Biography | I was born and raised in Southern Alberta, and my husband, Grant, and I have been married for over twenty years. We live in Brooks with our teenaged sons, Michael and Derek. I come from a family of eight children, and reading was my escape as a kid, but I didnt write much outside of school until I was an adult and had a job where I answered phones and read books. After two years of reading seven hours a day, I lost interest a little and started writing short stories instead. I occasionally thought about writing novels but didnt have the confidence to begin. With young children, time was a factor, too, but that changed when my sister-in-law introduced me to books by Diana Gabaldon. I learned from her that it was possible to be a wife, a mother, work outside the home, and write, too, and I wrote the first rough draft of a novel in five days. I eventually mastered time management and took a creative writing course by correspondence. Its purpose was to get me published as a freelance writer but the tutor also helped edit my first childrens book. My life changed when I started taking my writing seriously. Now I write in the mornings and work part time at my sons school in the afternoon. I have a supportive husband, two incredible sons, friends, and a large extended family cheering me on, and after ten years working in a school, I have a lot of material to draw from. Writing occupies much of my former leisure time, and with my busy life, I have little time for cooking, crowded stores, and messes (none of which I like anyway). I recently discovered beach vacations, and Id love to explore more beaches around the world. |
Publications | I've had articles published in several newspapers and magazines such as West Magazine, Legacy Magazine, and The Brooks Bulletin, RV Times. I've published two childrens novels so far. These are the first two book in a series aimed at children aged 7 - 12 years old. Since the release of my first childrens novel, Danny Howard: Hero At Large, Ive visited many schools and talked to students about my exciting career as a writer. In the second novel in the series, Danny Howard: Fostering Elirelease date October 2009Danny Howards adventures continue, and Im currently writing the third novel in the series. Ive been so fortunate that Ive been able to share my experiences with young writers, and I look forward to reaching many more.
