Biography

Maitham Salman is a fiction writer and photographer. He was born in Iraq in 1970. He graduated from University of Baghdad/College of Art/Department of Media in 1994.

He left Iraq in 1997 to Jordan, and arrived in Canada as a political refugee in December of 1998, and since then he has been living in the City of Edmonton, Alberta.

He has three published books in Arabic language, and has contributed in two books in English language; an online anthology tilted Home: Stories Connecting us all, 2018; and an anthology of literary cuisines titled Beyond the Food Court published by Laberinto Press in 2020.

He has published many articles and short stories in various Arabic newspapers, magazines and websites. His work has appeared in Malahat Review magazine.

In 2012 he participated as a cultural consultant in the play of Bengal Tiger at the Baghdad Zoo, produced by U of A.

When he is not writing, he does some photography. One of his photos has won a monthly photo contest run by the Arabic/English website, Fobyaa based in US (http://www.fobyaa.com/?p=6099). He is a member of the Borderlines Writer-in-Exile program for the year of 2013/2014. He is a member of Writers Guild of Alberta.

In 2013 he received a grant from Edmonton Arts Council to complete a collection of short stories.

He is a member of Writersê Guild of Alberta.
