Biography | Born in Edmonton, Maureen was raised in Edmonton and Calgary. She loved writing as a child but had nothing to say so she went on to other things, first a Bachelors Degree in History and then a Masters Degree in Environmental Design Environmental Science, both from the University of Calgary. She worked as a public involvement consultant and trained as a mediator and then discovered that she liked writing even better. She has a Post-graduate Certificate of Creative Writing from Humber College. Her first book, The Nexus Ring (Coteau 2007), is a fantasy novel for 8 - 12 year olds set in the real world and in a magical world in BC and Alberta from the coast to the Rockies. The adventure continues in Crow Boy (Coteau 2010), as Josh and Maddy return to Castle Mountain, and the magic world of the Rockies, to stop the Nexus ring from damaging the veil seperating the human and magic worlds. In The Veil Weavers (Coteau 2012), Josh is given an impossible task, to repair the veil. In Feather Brain (Orca 2008), Lucas makes a model dinosaur using a kit he purchased through the Internet and gets much more than he bargained for. It's a fantasy novel about dinosaurs and bullying in the Orca Young Readers series, for kids just ready to read novels. The website howweirdcanyouget.com is an accompaniment for the story. In Cursed! (Orca 2010), Jane is terrified of the masks hanging along her grandmothers stairwell, and even more scared of the Spirit Man in her grandmothers bathroom. She finally summons the courage to face him, but her moment of triumph marks the beginning of a year of trouble for Jane and her family, trouble only Jane (and the Spirit Man) can fix. |
