Biography | Patricia MacQuarrie describes herself as a true crime writer but also works with short stories and memoir type pieces as well. She has had her true crime work compared to Truman Capote and Brian Vallee and credits her criminology background with influencing her writing style. Her most recent work Deadly Canadian Women hit shelves in March 2008 receiving rave reviews across Canada and selling out in its first year. She was born and raised in the colourful town of Fairview Alberta but has had many opportunities to travel the world from South East Asia to Western Europe to coast to coast across Canada. She considers herself lucky to have come from a strong family and community. Her memories of life on the farm have shown up in many of her short stories including the award winning Garbage Dump which was published and produced by CBC in 2005. Patricia received her degree in criminology from the University of Alberta in 2000 and spent nearly three following years in Japan. Currently working on a new true crime novel she lives in Alberta. Patricia is the President of the Writer's Guild of Alberta board. She is a member of the WGA the Writer's Union of Canada and the Creative Nonfiction Collective. Patricia teaches writing workshops to eager literarians as well as providing editing services and writing advice. She writes government proposals and contract reports on a contractual basis and freelances as well. Contact Patricia if you are interested in more information. |
