Biography | Jocelyn Hastie is a self-admitted late bloomer. She came to discover her love of horses as an adult, and her love of writing as she neared 60. She is the author of "As Buck Would Have It", a cautionary tale of mature online romance in cowboy country. This is the story of a cowboy and the women who loved him, told from the perspectives of each of the characters. Her accounting career ended following diagnosis and treatment of advanced-stage cancer of the tongue base in 2016. She credits her recovery to the love of friends, family, horses and her rural lifestyle. |
Publications | As Buck Would Have It - a novel by Jocelyn Hastie, now available on Amazon. Based on a true story, this cautionary tale of mature romance is set in a virtual world, during the COVID-19 pandemic. This is the story of a cowboy and the women who loved him, told from the perspectives of each of the characters. Buck is a true romantic, devoted to his wife and family and wounded by his fatherês decision to leave when Buck was a teenager. Buck was a rodeo cowboy for many years and has the manners we see in old Westerns. He calms the most skittish of horses and knows how to use that same charm and sensitivity with people. His wife, Michelle, leaves after thirty years of marriage. Linda has a history with Buck from his early rodeo days. Jocelyn is a successful businesswoman, hoping to rekindle her deep love for horses following cancer treatment. Michelle, Linda and Jocelyn each release their fantasies of riding off into the sunset with the cowboy. In the end, they unbridle their own brilliance, rather than staying entwined in Buckês vision of happiness. |
