Biography

Sandra Lamouche is a Nehiyaw Iskwew (Cree Woman) from the Bigstone Cree Nation in Northern Alberta and married into the Piikani Nation in Southern Alberta. She received her B.A. in Native American Studies from the University of Lethbridge in 2007. She completed her M.A. from Trent University in Indigenous Studies. Her thesis is titled –Nitona Miyo Pimadisiwin (Seeking a Good Life) Through Indigenous Dance” which examines Indigenous Dance as a Social Determinant of Health and Well Being. In 2019 she received an Esquao Award for her leadership in Indigenous Education. In 2017 Sandra was the first ever Champion Women's Hoop Dancer at the inaugural Inter-mountain All-woman's Hoop Dance Contest in Salt Lake City Utah. She is a two-time TEDx Speaker and does presentations and storytelling. Her published writing, includes blog posts, magazine articles, academic articles, anthologies, poetry and she is working on two children's books with Orca Books and a youth novel with Highwater Press.
