Employment Opportunity Writers’ Guild of Alberta (WGA)

The Writers’ Guild of Alberta is looking for an individual with strong organizational and writing skills for the position of Operations and Grants Officer

Location:  Edmonton or Calgary WGA office, at home during times of COVID restrictions

This is a 21 hour per week maternity leave position with an expected term length running until August 2021. 

Reports To: Executive Director of the Writers’ Guild of Alberta.

General Responsibilities

Oversee financial and administrative systems, financial and donor databases, and revenue development strategy

Specific Responsibilities

  • Bank reconciliation, budget, and forecasting;
  • Develop and maintain donor database;
  • Grant preparation and reporting;
  • Research, identify, and pursue opportunities to sustain diversified revenue strategy;
  • Supports effective tracking of endowed accounts and current fund usage;
  • Ensures processing of donor gifts, pledges and receipts; 
  • Communicate and coordinate fund development activities with the members of the WGA staff as needed;
  • Assist in the coordination of fundraising efforts determined by the Fund Development Task Force by providing research and administration/communication support to successfully realize individual projects and identified priorities;
  • Undertake specific research initiatives as assigned.

Qualifications:

The should demonstrate ability in the following:

  • Build Relationships: Establish and maintain positive working relationships with others, both internally and externally, to achieve the goals of the organization;
  • Communicate Effectively: Speak, listen, and write in a clear, thorough, and efficient manner using appropriate and effective communication tools and techniques;
  • Creativity/Innovation: Develop new and unique ways to improve operations of the organization and to create new opportunities wherever possible;
  • Organizational Skills: Set priorities, develop a work schedule, monitor progress towards goals, and track details, data, information, and activities

Education:

  • University Degree in Arts and Culture Management, English or a related field with three – five years of work experience. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Knowledge, skills, and abilities:

  • Proficient in English, both written and spoken;
  • Proficiency in the use of computers for: word processing, databases, spreadsheets, internet;
  • Willingness to work outside normal business hours, as required
  • Knowledge of the literary community a strong asset;
  • Experience with budgeting and office practices, familiarity with QuickBooks accounting system an asset.

Salary range: $21.50 -$23 hourly based on experience.
