Please arrive by 4:45 to check-in, register parking and settle into the practice room. Doors are locked at 5:00. This is a community partnership between Yoga Santosha and the Writers’ Guild of Alberta.
Mid-January is commonly believed to be a seasonal juncture of lowered resilience, when our intentions for the new year may begin to slip. To boost clarity, perspective and will, this session is an opportunity to breathe into our present moment and to weave between expressive writing prompts and gentle yoga sequences. We’ll explore themes of attention, awareness and voice, seeking to uncover our most pressing questions and move toward a deeper understanding of what is occupying our minds the most. The studio will be heated to a warm temperature to invite our imaginations and physical bodies to drop into a transportive sense of inspiration and release. Bolsters and blocks will be provided to create comfortable sitting arrangements and writing surfaces. Wear comfortable exercise/yoga clothes and bring your notebook and pen.
About the Facilitator
Samantha (Sam) Warwick is a 250-hour yoga teacher and author specializing in the overlap between creative writing and physical movement, sometimes referred to as embodied writing. She has taught yoga + writing workshops for Capilano University, the Alexandra Writing Centre Society, the Writers’ Guild of Alberta, and co-taught a series of workshops at Yoga Santosha with Lisa Tierney in 2022. Sam has been a student at Yoga Santosha since the studio opened in 2007 and is grateful to them for introducing her to the neurophysiological benefits of a regular yoga and mindfulness practice.
