The Writers’ Guild of Alberta (WGA) values diversity and inclusiveness and aims to truly reflect the diversity of Alberta writers. We recognize the existence of various historical and structural inequities including discrimination based on skin colour, ethnicity, cultural or linguistic background, class, economic status, age, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity, religion, disability, or a combination of factors that have created barriers to access and full participation in Alberta’s literary community.
At the WGA’s 2017 Annual General Meeting, a motion was made for the Board to strike a task force on equity and make recommendations to the WGA. That motion was carried unanimously. Terms of reference were set and the Equity Task Forcehas been at work.
We are distributing a survey to Alberta writers, including members and non-members of the WGA. The purpose of this survey is to understand how the WGA can improve and promote equity, diversity and inclusivity of membership. We are also interested in learning how the writing community as a whole can become more welcoming to all. The survey results will help the WGA formulate and implement an equity action plan.
We hope you’ll take a few minutes to fill out our survey and encourage you to share the link as widely as possible with members of the literary community!
Survey closes February 5, 2018.
