WGA 2022 Online Retreat: Focus your Creativity – Jan. 14-16

January 14th – 16th, 2022

Meet the new Virtual Writer-in-Residence, Gail Anderson-Dargatz, as well as fellow retreat participants at a virtual fireside conversation on Friday evening on Friday evening with host Barbori Garnet. 7:00 – 8:30 PM (MST).

Enjoy Saturday’s fireside visit with a focus on your writing; conversation guided by our host and partner from the Write-In, Savanna Harvey from 7:00 – 8:30 PM (MST).

Start each day with an inspiring talk, to view at your leisure, on how to focus your creativity by one of our two mentors: Golden Pen recipient Vivian Hansen; and Dustin Archibald. Participate in a LIVE afternoon focus session with Dustin on developing characters on Saturday from 1:00 – 2:00 PM (MST); and a LIVE guided writing session with Vivian called, Six Lines: Poetry and Fiction as Soulmates on Sunday from 1:00 – 2:00 PM (MST).

Cost: $90 for members, $120 for non-members, $80 for students.

Online Retreat Mentors

Dustin Archibald

Though he mainly writes fiction, Dustin Archibald has been known to dabble in computer programming, martial arts, and business. He tries to stay open to learning new things and making new connections. He writes books for children, teens, and adults. His current focus is his Asha Anderson Series. He lives in Grande Prairie, Alberta, Canada with his wife, Tracy, and his son, Logan.

Vivian Hansen

Vivian Hansen has published essays in Coming Here, Being Here, and Waiting. Her collection A Bitter Mood of Clouds (Frontenac House 2013), is a Long Poem about Arne Petersen, who received gender reassignment in Denmark in 1953. A Tincture of Sunlight (2017) about Old Man, a WWII veteran and biologist. Leylines of My Flesh (Touchwood 2002), chronicles the immigration experience of Danish Canadians. Vivian teaches creative writing at University of Calgary, as well the Alexandra Writers’ Centre. Vivian holds an MFA in Creative Writing from the University of British Columbia. She served as Writer in Residence with the Canadian Authors Association– Alberta Branch. She has work forthcoming in The (M)othering Anthology.
