A Killer Whisky
Susan Calder
fiction, mystery, historical
The 1918 influenza pandemic strikes Calgary, Alberta. The Great War rages overseas. Prohibition spurs the trade in illegal liquor. While her husband fights in Europe, Katharine works in a doctor’s office to support her children and her brother, a wounded veteran. When their neighbour dies after drinking a glass of whisky, Katharine suspects someone laced his drink with a drug that mimics the "Spanish flu’s" symptoms. She convinces the police to investigate. The quest takes an alarming turn when her brother emerges as a suspect. A second death points to a bootlegging operation and draws her disturbingly close to the police detective. Katharine must discover the truth so she can move forward in a world that has changed forever.
I will hold a book launch in the Treehouse at cSPACE Marda Loop, Calgary, on Tuesday, March 25, 2025, hosted by Owl's Nest Bookstore.
