Tracking the Caribou Queen: Memoir of a Settler Girlhood
Margaret Macpherson
Creative non fiction
White Canadians often lament American racism while overlooking the land theft and bigotry that shaped this country, and delivered unearned privilege. Margaret Macpherson stares into the face of Canada’s racism—not the historical wrongs kept at a convenient distance but her own lived experience in a northern town. Her stories will make any reader wince. This brave memoir isn’t only about growing up in Yellowknife. It is about your town and mine, about you and me.
Linda Goyette,
There will be a book launch in Edmonton in October, possibly at LitFest. This book was made in Edmonton, 12 years of labour, but circumstances took Margaret to Northern Ontario just after her contract with NeWest was signed. She vows to celebrate the release of Tracking the Caribou Queen with the people who helped make it happen!
