Are you an emerging writer and you are wondering how to make your manuscript fit for publishing? What are the necessary steps to make it publishable? How many types of editing does a manuscript need? Our province has top notch editors, and we are asking three of our very best what it takes to turn a manuscript into an award-winning book. Meet editors Peter Midgley, Kimmy Beach and Alicia Chantal as they discuss their tried and tested strategies for flawless texts.

Alicia Chantal is the owner of Fresh Look Editing, based in Edmonton, Alberta. She specializes in nonfiction copyediting, proofreading, and writing, and is passionate about helping writers create messages that educate and empower. Alicia was a member of Editors Canada’s Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion task force and also served as co-coordinator of her local chapter. When not at her desk, she can be found spending time with her husband and three boys, reading, or watching a good show.
Peter Midgley is a poet and storyteller born in South Africa and based in Edmonton. He has performed in several countries around the world and has published three children’s books, one of which, Thuli’s Mattress, won the International Board on Books for Young People Award for Literacy Promotion and has been translated into twenty-seven languages. His latest poetry collection, Let us not think of them as barbarians was released in 2019 (NeWest Press).
