Writers are busy and don’t have a ton of time for all the hustle involved in self-marketing, which publishers have come to expect. Join social media specialist Haley Overland in a conversation about social media for the busy writer. Get straightforward tips on creating optimal posts, and utilizing analytics and “competitors” to stay on top of industry best practices and ever shifting algorithms.
One of the first official “Social Media Editors” in the media industry, Haley Overland (@haleyoverland) is perhaps best known for growing the Today’s Parent Twitter audience to more than a million followers. She later took up the post at Chatelaine, and acted as on-site expert at Rogers Media, working closely and co-hosting workshops and social media events with representatives from Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. After 8+ years in the media business, she decided to switch her approach to one that was more service oriented, and is now happily stationed at University of Toronto Student Life — growing their social media platforms (rapidly!), training Student Life staff, and delivering workshops and seminars regularly to student leaders at U of T.
