Many book projects are not fully developed and as a result never find a publisher. Why? As writers, we love to avoid our protagonists’ conflicts, for the same reasons we avoid our own. And we do that in oh, so many ways. The solution lies in rethinking situation to put your protagonist firmly in the centre of her conflict. Writing coach Gail Anderson-Dargatz will draw from twenty-five years of experience both as a writer and developmental editor to explore the ways we avoid conflict in our projects and offer solutions that will help you develop your story to the fullest.
Gail Anderson-Dargatz has been published worldwide in English and in many other languages. A Recipe for Bees and The Cure for Death by Lighting were international bestsellers, and were both finalists for the prestigious Giller Prize in Canada. Both Turtle Valley and A Rhinestone Button were national bestsellers and her first book, The Miss Hereford Stories, was short-listed for the Leacock Award for humour. Her most recent novel, The Spawning Grounds, was released in fall 2016 and is again a national bestseller.
After nearly a decade of teaching within the Optional-Residency MFA program in creative writing at the University of British Columbia, Gail now works with writers from around the world through her own on-line forums.
