The Government of Alberta is hosting a public consultation in advance of the 2021 provincial budget. We encourage you to participate by visiting https://www.alberta.ca/budget-2021-consultation.aspx.
You have until December 4, 2020 to make your voice heard.
To aid in your response, Alberta Partners for Arts and Culture (APAC) is sharing their response to the budget consultation and a helpful document (see below) for you to make use of and share widely.
On November 17, 2020, APAC submitted their official response to the budget consultation to Hon. Travis Toews, President of Treasury Board and Minister of Finance and Hon. Leela Aheer Minister of Culture, Multiculturalism and Status of Women.
In addition to APAC’s official response, they have released an updated document QUICK FACTS on Alberta’s Creative Sector (download PDF).
The QUICK FACTS document contains memorable and empowering statistics. For example, did you know?:
- In 2017, culture goods and services contributed $5.3 billion to Alberta’s GDP, the fourth highest among provinces. Between 2010 and 2017, Alberta’s culture GDP increased overall by 16%. www.affta.ab.ca/news/explore-economics-alberta-art
We hope that you will use APAC’s official response and QUICK FACTS on Alberta’s Creative Sector in your submission. Further to that, I hope that the research and statistics continue to assist you in your own everyday advocacy in conversations about the importance of the arts sector.
