Beginning in June 2026, the Annual General Meeting will be held online only. This year’s AGM will take place on Monday, June 22 at 7:00 PM MT. Registration details, agenda, and other materials will be distributed to all members via email in May.
Why change?
In the past the AGM has been a hybrid event, with most attendees participating in-person at the annual conference in June. At our January meeting, the WGA’s Board of Directors voted unanimously to change the format and date of the guild’s Annual General Meeting for two main reasons.
Enable Broad Participation
First, moving fully online ensures that all WGA members can attend the meeting, regardless of location or other circumstances. Broad participation in the AGM is important. At the AGM, Board members are elected, the financial statements of the organization are opened to the membership, and the strategic goals and activities of the Board are reviewed. The AGM also gives all members an opportunity to bring ideas and concerns to the Board, and when desired, bring forward motions upon which all members can vote.
Improve Remote Experience
Second, by moving fully online, we can make better use of today’s digital meeting technologies, and ideally avoid the technical difficulties that often come with hybrid delivery of a primarily in-person event, making the overall experience better for all attendees. We also aim to improve Board elections will the implementation of electronic balloting.
In-person contact with the Board remains a priority.
While the AGM will be moving online and will no longer be part of the WGA’s annual conference taking place on June 6th and 7th, the Board remains committed to meeting members in person. As many of us as possible will be in attendance at the 2026 WGA Conference and Awards Gala in order to meet with and learn from the members in attendance. We look forward to talking with you there.
