LUKAS AND THE GHOST TRAIN
Book 1 of THE LUKAS ENCOUNTERS
June was a trying month for Lukas—a month of endless waiting.
Once school was done for the year, Lukas would join his cousin KC on “The Farm” where his father and his Uncle Ben has grown up. Uncle Ben had just bought a new horse named Nugget. Now both KC and Lukas had a horse to ride, and a summer full of adventure beckoned.
But then KC told Lukas about something new. A “ghost train” had been sighted, running on the branch line not far from The Farm. And not just any ghost train. This was the Ghost Train, a train with ties to Lukas' very own family, a train long absent but now mysteriously reappearing when the moon was full....
Before long, Lukas and KC decide to embark on a quest for the mysterious spectral locomotive—a quest that proves all too successful when the cousins find themselves right in the path of the onrushing Ghost Train, with their lives hanging in the balance!
The "Ghost Train" is the first of the three-book series, "The Lucas Encounters". Growing up in the Western Canadian city of Edmonton, Lukas Johnson is more or less normal (other than deciding to spell his name with a “k”, in honour of his mother’s grandfather from Ukraine). But once he enters his teenage years, he encounters phenomena—almost as if they seek him out. In the next book, he and his cousin, KC inadvertently resurrect an “undead” T.rex—the “U. rex”, and in the third novel, Lukas encounters a “Coldfire-breathing” silver dragon with which he becomes a “bloodmate” and shares telepathic powers.
The first book will be launched at the Alberta Railway Museum on Labour Day Monday, September 5. Online prices vary between sellers e.g. Amazon and Barnes&Noble, but the Publisher's price is $14.95, which the book will be sold at the Museum. In addition, the Museum is offering a special admission of $10 for a family if the book is purchased. The Museum also hopes to bring out locomotive #302 to break through a banner and launch the book--how many book launches incorporate a locomotive?
