Writers’ Guild of Alberta Employment Opportunity: Regional Writer-in-Residence (6 Positions Available)
The Writers’ Guild of Alberta invites all those qualified to apply for the position of Regional Writer-in-Residence (RWiR). There are up to 6 positions available. Alberta regions we are looking to include this year are Grande Prairie, Fort McMurray, Lethbridge, Red Deer, Greater Edmonton, and the Greater Calgary areas.
This program provides WGA members access to the services of a Virtual RWiR, with priority given to those who cannot easily access a RWiR. The RWiR will focus on a specific region of the province, their term culminating with in-person author talks, workshops, or follow-up meetings in that specific region (2-5 hours). The position will start in September, wrapping up in late October or early November with each region’s WiR responsible for:
- Up to 20 one-hour virtual consultations with members writing in all genres;
- Preparation time of approximately 1.5 hours for each session, which will include pre-reading, evaluation, and contemplation of the member’s submitted written work, of up to 15 pages.
The RWiR will provide the Writers’ Guild of Alberta with a final report, including the names of the members who have accessed the service, and an overall evaluation of the program. Remuneration is $6,000 plus travel expenses for in-person programming.
