About the Featured Reader
Born and raised in Winnipeg and of Jamaican descent, Sholley’s poetry comes from a place of personal reflection and contemplation. Inducted into the spoken word poetry scene by way of Wakefield Brewster’s Pitbull Poetry Series, Sholley has now lent her voice in support of many meaningful initiatives, including Black Donors Save Lives and the Yeepi Foundation fundraiser for Surinam. Her poetic accolades include being a 2X winner of Airdrie Public Library’s Voices In Motion, featuring at ‘February in August’ and ‘Thank You Sir Charles’ at The Grand Theatre, Wakefield Brewsters’ curated events celebrating Black artistic contributions and excellence. Sholley continues to remain active in community events collaborating with Calgary local artists, writers, and poets, including collaboration with international music artist Andy White earlier this year at the Ironwood Stage.
