Though we will not be having our typical adventures near Bragg Creek at Kamp Kiwanis, we will still have a blast at this year’s location: Red Deer Polytechnic (formerly Red Deer College)! There may not be a pool, but there is a whole new area for us to explore!
Immerse yourself in a community of creatives as you learn from professional authors and playwrights in a week-long series of workshops. And that’s only the beginning – world building, song writing, Dungeons & Dragons, campfire, bedtime stories, and more adventures await!
WordsWorth is a week-long sleepover creative writing residency for young writers who believe in the power of words. Writers will be completely immersed in the creative and diverse world of writing. Guided by established and respected artist-instructors, writers will experience writing through fiction, nonfiction, poetry, spoken word, music, and more. But the experiences don’t begin and end with the classes; WordsWorth is a place where young writers come together to celebrate writing through friendship, campfires, concerts, open mic sessions, hikes, haiku, and semi-competitive games outside of class.
Things to Know:
- Please have your Alberta Health Care Number ready when you sign up (or if you are not in Alberta, your respective province’s health care number). We can’t allow participants to come to WordsWorth without a health care number. If your form does not contain a health care number, we can’t save your spot until we get it.
- If your form has been received safely, you should get an automatic confirmation email. If your payment has gone through safely, you should get an automatic email receipt. If you don’t receive those messages and they are not in your spam folder, please let us know. If you did get the email and receipt then we definitely have your registration and payment, but if you don’t, one or both may not have gone through!
- Handbooks will be sent out closer to the camp start date, but if you need reference, the 2019 handbooks are available for viewing (Week One and Weeks Two and Three). Most details, including pick up and drop off times, are likely to be the same this year.

Red Deer Polytechnic (RDP):
Located near the outskirts of Red Deer, RDP has great facilities, access to hiking trails, and plenty of open space for activities. The location offers apartment style accommodation and a large cafeteria. All residences and activities at RDP are supervised by our highly-qualified Creative Team.
Online Youth Programming Survey:
We are very excited to be back with in-person programming this summer! This survey is meant to help us, the Writers’ Guild of Alberta (WGA), decide a few things moving forward in regard to our online youth programming as well as a couple of other things we would like your opinion on.
