WGA Special Event (Calgary) — November 26, 2024

A toast and social gathering to celebrate recent literary recipients of the Alberta Order of Excellence: Will Ferguson, Cheryl Foggo & Max Foran with remarks by Aritha Van Herk (AOE Award recipient 2011) and tributes by Marcello Di Cintio, Shaun Hunter and Samantha Warwick.

This year, the Lieutenant Governor of Alberta named novelist and travel writer Will Ferguson to the Alberta Order of Excellence, the province’s highest citizen honour. Author and historian Max Foran received this distinction in 2023—and in 2022, author, screenwriter, playwright and film director Cheryl Foggo was invested into the AOE. Join the WGA and friends to raise a glass and celebrate their accomplishments and generous contributions to the literary community. Alberta Order of Excellence (2011) award recipient Aritha van Herk will deliver remarks in honour of the small list of writers (literary and otherwise) who have been inducted to the AOE since the distinction was launched in 1981. Local authors Marcello Di Cintio, Shaun Hunter and Samantha Warwick will offer toasts to recognize recent members and to salute Alberta’s thriving and resilient community of writers. There will be wit, possibly wisdom, and plenty of good cheer! Big thanks to the management team at Last Best Brewing & Distilling for providing a space for us to gather.
