Please join us for our 2024 Calgary Holiday Party! It’ll be an evening to eat, drink & be merry together as we celebrate the wonderful and inspiring literary community in Calgary! You can expect light catering, door prizes, a raffle, and readings from Kirti Bhadresa, Clem Martini, Joshua Whitehead, and Sheri-D Wilson. Shelf Life Books will be on site selling books from both THIS YEAR’S and LAST YEAR’S readers, plus a small selection of knick knacks (great for stocking stuffers!) Come for the party, stay to do your holiday shopping!

About the Readers:
Kirti Bhadresa’s fiction and non-fiction have appeared in The Fiddlehead, Prairie Fire, The Quarantine Review, The Sprawl, and Room, and she has been a finalist for the Alberta Magazine Publishers Association Award in the category of Feature Writing. Bhadresa lives with her family in Calgary, AB, on Treaty 7 territory.
Clem Martini is an award-winning playwright, novelist, and screenwriter with over thirty plays, and thirteen books of fiction and nonfiction to his credit, including the W.O. Mitchell Award-winning Bitter Medicine: A Graphic Memoir of Mental Illness,The Unravelling, and The Comedian. His most recently premiered plays, Cantata (Rumours of My Crazy, Useless Life) and The Extinction Therapist were published together in a book in 2023. He’s a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada and teaches in the School of Creative and Performing Arts at the University of Calgary.
Joshua Whitehead is an Oji-Cree, Two-Spirit member of Peguis First Nation (Treaty 1). He is the author of full-metal indigiqueer, Jonny Appleseed, Making Love with the Land, and Indigiqueerness: a Conversation About Storytelling as well as the editor of Love after the End: an Anthology of Two-Spirit and Indigiqueer Speculative Fiction. Whitehead is currently an Assistant Professor at the University of Calgary (Treaty 7).
Sheri-D Wilson is the award-winning author and creator of 13 books, 4 short films,
and 4 albums which combine music and poetry. In 2019 she was appointed one to the Order of Canada, for her contributions as a Spoken Word Poet, and her leadership in the community. In 2017, she received her Doctor of Letters—Honoris Causa from Kwantlen University. She is Poet Laureate Emeritus of Calgary 2018–2020. A strong advocate for social change and community building, Sheri-D was Founder & Director of: Calgary Spoken Word Society (2003-2023) Spoken Word Festival, Ink Spot Reading Series, School of Thought & Word Travels School Program, Initiated and developed The Spoken Word Program at the Banff Centre where she served as Director and Faculty for seven years. Sheri-D presently lives between Calgary & Vancouver with her dog Willow.
