The Book of John chronicles the life of John Glyndwr Ashton, starting with the people who most influenced his development, the small village of his early years and the formative pressures of the cultural climate in rural Alberta during the Great Depression and WWII. Vowing to make something of this life, John went on to become a naval officer, husband for life, father of six, lawyer and Queen's Counsel. Serving Strathcona County and Sherwood Park in every level of politics including the 1971 breakthrough Lougheed government, becoming highly involved in local business, and supporting charities and visual arts, John spent his life passionate about his community. He was the driving force behind preserving and celebrating Sherwood Park's history in Heritage Mile. Throwing his considerable skills and energy behind every aspect of his life, John achieved multiple awards and recognition for most of his endeavors. At age eighty-seven, he looks over his life and wonders how it was all possible. This book gives a glimpse into his rich, exciting and sometimes tragic world.
