Winner of the 2020 Vallum Chapbook Award, "It Was Treaty/It Was Me" engages with the signing of the numbered treaties through the eyes of the author's ancestors. Moving from the 1870s to the present day, direct connections are drawn between significant historical events and the ongoing colonial genocide of the Canadian state. Through archival excavation as well as personal and family stories, this chapbook of poetry blends elements of nonfiction, photography, and visual arts.
