Two-Day Memoir Intensive (Edmonton)

Join a limited group of writers to explore this 2-day Memoir Intensive!

Writing what you remember is a good exercise in self-reflection, but how do you craft those memories into something readers can appreciate? This memoir intensive examines how to take those important memories and turn them into stories others can read. We will look at ways of remembering, then how to re-member your experiences into a larger whole. You will receive both feedback from other participants in the intensive and written feedback from your instructor afterwards. Together, we will explore the process of turning memoir into stories that do justice to your experience.

Light snacks and refreshments will be provided each day of the intensive. Vending machines are available on site.

Schedule

Day 1: November 7, 2026
1:30 PM – 4:30 PM MT
Day 2: November 21, 2026
2:00 PM – 4:00 PM MT

After Day 1, you will then have time to take your writing home and work on your pieces, returning for Day 2. Included with the intensive is a brief one-on-one phone call with William Thompson, to be scheduled with the facilitator after the in-person portion of the intensive has commenced. 

About the Feature

William Thompson is an associate professor at MacEwan University, where he teaches a range of courses in children’s literature and science fiction. World building is a mainstay of all his courses. His essays and stories have appeared in literary journals in both North America and the UK. he has also written on authors in the fantasy tradition, such as J. K. Rowling, C. S. Lewis, and Monica Hughes. He is totally blind, considers coffee a food group, and he loves to walk and read, usually at the same time.

About the Venue

Parking is free and plentiful at the Percy Page Centre. The building is also close to public transportation points, and accessible for those in a wheelchair.

Cancellation Policy

Any cancellations before September 11, 2026 will receive a full refund minus a $30.00 administration fee.

Cancellations made between September 12, 2026 to October 23, 2026 will receive a 50% refund minus a $30.00 administration fee.

Refund requests made after October 24, 2026 will receive no refund.
