Story to Script: Finding character and drafting dialogue
March 19, 23 & 26
Katherine Koller, Facilitator
Maximum number of registrants: 12 – Three spots left!
This intensive is for emerging playwrights and writers new to playwriting.
It focuses on story finding, character development and dialogue drafting, and has three components:
- Workshop 1: Finding the Voice of the Story (2 hours) Sunday, March 19, 2-4 pm
There are three writing exercises designed to help you get closer to your character and to your story. We will look at three ways of “hearing” and “seeing” the main character, their desires and their place in the story.
- One-On-one Sessions with Katherine (20-30 min each) Thursday, March 23, 2-6 pm
These sessions are for talking out the premise, conflict or heat of the story, and to prepare drafting a simple scenario or outline or to make notes for the next draft.
- Workshop 2: Conversation to Dialogue (2 hours) Sunday, March 26, 2-4 pm
We will discuss dialogue for playwriting, what it is and is not, what it can do and why. There are three writing exercises to draft a pivotal moment in your play.
**Previous playwriting experience is not required for this workshop, but participants may send a draft of a scene, or outline, or a synopsis of an idea (5 pages maximum) to [email protected] or upload to the registration form below.
