About the Poets:
Spoken word poet meets eternal optimist, Miranda Krogstad’s poetry ranges in topic from child’s play to empowerment, giving life’s obstacles a feel-good finish. A member of the 2014 slam team, a member of the 2013 International spoken word program at the Banff centre, a Calgary Arts Development grant recipient, and a 2-time Canada Council for the Arts grant recipient, she has since co-founded the spoken word network YYSpeak to create a communal and supportive space for spoken word artists. A big supporter of local arts, Miranda has featured at staples such as Feminine Voice, Expressions, Raw Voices, Say Word, CYHMN and U of C Spoken Word. She has also brought her poetry more widely into country and beyond, into cities like Honolulu, Portland, Montreal, and Winnipeg.
Kathryn Lennon 姚君妍 is a writer, editor, and community planner. Her poetry has been published in Canthius, Polyglot Magazine, Living Hyphen, the Globe and Mail, Ricepaper Magazine, and the Ethnic Aisle, among others. Her writing has been included in several anthologies including: Reimagining Fire: the Future of Energy (Durvile & UpRoute), Back Where I Came From (Book*hug Press), and Beyond Touch Sites: an Anthology of the Tangible (Laberinto Press). She is the co-founder and co-editor of Hungry Zine, a food-focused publication that centres voices missing in mainstream food media. She holds a MA from the University of British Colombia’s School of Community and Regional Planning, and a Bachelor of Environment from the University of Waterloo. She has Cantonese and Irish heritage and lives in Edmonton, amiskwacîwâskahikan, within Treaty 6 Territory. Duckweed浮萍 is her first full-length collection of poetry.
Josephine LoRe’s words have been read live and in global zoom-rooms, put to music, danced, integrated into visual art, and published in literary journals and anthologies in fifteen countries and five languages. Thrice nominated for the Pushcart Poetry Prize and recently appointed Poet Laureate of Calgary’s Bow Valley Ranche Historical Society, Josephine has four solo publications, and recently published Late to the Sky with co-pilot Charles S. Cobean.
Nisha Patel is a Poet Laureate Emeritus of the City of Edmonton and a Canadian Poetry Slam Champion. She is a disability advocate and diabetic. Her works (Coconut, A Fate Worse Than Death, For the Record) are available where books are sold. She currently works from Edmonton and Calgary.
