Join host Ashley Frerichs for a special edition of Poetry Parlour in celebration of National Poetry Month! In April, instead of having one featured reader, we are showcasing a few of Poetry Parlour’s standout teen poets, Caius Big Bull Blys, Kate Burley, and Brielle Meunier!

Open mic sign-up starts at 7pm. There will be fewer open mic slots (10 instead of 12) due to a longer feature segment, so arrive early if you want to read! If necessary, we’ll do a draw for spots.

About the Featured Readers
Brielle Meunier has always found art enthralling, from sculpture to creative writing to dramatic performances – she can never seem to get enough. A couple years ago she began experimenting with poetry as an outlet for her anxiety and felt like it encapsulated the way she sees the world in a way that basic conversation never could. Over time, Brielle’s family, friends and the strangers she met at open mic nights praised her for her writing and she found herself writing faster, longer and more vulnerable poems which have been consistently opening doors and creating valuable opportunities that she didn’t know existed before.

Caius Big Bull-Blys is a touching and extraordinary young emerging author and poet from Calgary, Alberta, who specializes in capturing the moments in often-invisible interstitial urban spaces. With an addictive turn of phrase and a profound emotional intention behind each word, he captures the hearts of readers time and time again. When he’s not writing, He’s working with local artists to publish Pointless Giberish Magazine, playing music, or is pursuing some sort of visual art.

Kate Burley is an aspiring writer here in Calgary, Alberta. She enjoys writing on a variety I’ve topics, but tends to lean more towards short spoken word poems on life experience.
