Poetry as Listening: A generative poetry workshop with Shazia Hafiz Ramji

January 22-29
Format: Google Classroom (must have Gmail account)
*There are no specific start times, as this is a self-guided workshop. Writers are free to work at their own pace over the course of the week*

Join Shazia Hafiz Ramji for a week-long self-guided writing workshop on using listening and soundwalking to write poetry. With readings and prompts inspired by R. Murray Schafer, Kaveh Akbar, and Monica Kidd, we will generate poems inspired by sound, media, and walking.

This workshop has been curated to provide writers with prompts and other inspiration to get them writing and generating new work over this time period. Writers are encouraged to share their work with the other workshop participants, but direct feedback or critique from the instructor is not included at this time.

Shazia Hafiz Ramji’s poetry has been shortlisted for the 2020 Bridport Prize for International Creative Writing (UK) and nominated for the 2020 Pushcart Prizes. She is the author of Port of Being, a finalist for the 2019 Vancouver Book Award, BC Book Prizes (Dorothy Livesay Poetry Prize), Gerald Lampert Memorial Award, and winner of the Robert Kroetsch Award for Innovative Poetry.
