Eat a Good Breakfast Today-Today is FULL-and you are INVITED

If this summer will be your first one at WordsWorth Creative Writing Residency, there is one thing you will notice at the end of it.  One week is not long enough. If you’ve been at WordsWorth before, you know what I’m talking about.

The collective creative energy generated when everyone gets together, writes, sings, moves, creates, collaborates and supports one another is too beautiful and too big to contain into one week.  So a small group of us got together to create something that would keep the WordsWorth momentum alive.  A Place Called WordsWorth (APCWW) is a collective of creators to, among bigger dreams, provides opportunity for WordsWorth writers and artists to continue to meet in person and online to continue the artistic dialogue and collaboration.

With funding help from Youth Central, we were able begin a website to connect writers across the province and beyond.

And this Saturday, as part of Youth Central’s Youth Week, A Place Called WordsWorth is hosting its second open mic.  If you are new to the WordsWorth experience, come and check us out.  All young writers, bring a piece of your writing (in whatever form) to share on stage or sit back and be part of the audience.  There will an opportunity to meet other WordsWorth writers, some who are current participants and some who have graduated to attend university or begin their careers.  There will also be a few WordsWorth instructors and members of the Creative Team.

It begins at 5:30pm At the House Coffee Shop 126 10 Street NW, Calgary, AB T2N 1V3 View Map · Get Directions

But, wait, there is MORE!

Prior to the Open Mic at the same House Coffee Shop location join a POETRY BOMB Making get-to-gether with our friends from the People’s Poetry Festival.  What is a poetry bomb? Like a yarn bomb, a poetry bomb is a covert piece of poetry – written on a piece of decorative card – and left around the city to share poetry (and the PPF) with other Calgarians!

We’ll have all the supplies you need – paper, pens, scissors and more – to craft your very own poetry bombs! We’ll also have a good selection of poetry books for you to pull from, but you’re welcome to bring along your favorite poetry scraps, or write some of your own!

But don’t think your night is over at 7:30pm!

WordsWorth friend Mary Sanche has invited us to join her at a fundraiser she is involved with.

Mary Sanche is one of the artists GHOST TO COAST! There will be musicians, FOOD, art, and more to raise money for the cross-Canada cycling group Ocean 2 Ocean!

Ben Nixon who’s running the thing is a great guy. (Some of you may remember him from last year’s PPF APCWW open mic in August! He’s the one who blundered (her words) through some Wagon Wheel with Mary).

See you Saturday!

*A Place Called WordsWorth Writing Collective” is made up by artists, musicians, photographers, and writers of all kinds. We form a safe, inviting community which nurtures creativity in a unique and powerful way.  If you wish to join this on-line community and get to know more about the members and opportunities,  a $5 membership will be collected Saturday night.
