ANNOUNCING THE WGA 2017 BANFF RETREAT WRITER IN RESIDENCE

The WGA is thrilled to announce that the Writer in Residence for our 2017 Banff retreat will be Kimmy Beach! Kimmy has served as Writer in Residence for the Writers’ Guild of Alberta, the Saskatchewan Writers’ Guild, the Parkland Regional Library, the Library Association of Alberta, and the Canadian Literature Centre at the University of Alberta.

She spent two summers on the faculty for Sage Hill Writing Experience, and has facilitated workshops across western Canada and on the Greek island of Crete. She has read across the country, in Greece, and in the UK.

Kimmy’s sixth book is Nuala: A Fable (The University of Alberta Press, 2017). Her previous five books have received wide recognition, theatrical adaptation, and reviews in Quill & QuireAlberta Views, The Coastal SpectatorOpen Book TorontoEyewear (UK), Canadian PoetriesFreeFallThe Antigonish Review, and several others. Kimmy’s fifth book, The Last Temptation of Bond (UAP, 2013) won the Tom Fairley Award for Editorial Excellence. The book was one of the top 5 poetry collections of the year at Quill & Quire and was featured on CBC Radio’s The Next Chapter with Shelagh Rogers.

Kimmy holds a First Class Honours degree from the University of Alberta, and lives in Red Deer with Stu, her husband of thirty years. Kimmy offers a professional manuscript evaluation service for emerging writers.
