Writing is created with words, and words are built from sounds. No matter what we write about—from teacups to trauma—or whether we write poetry or prose, that content is going to be embodied in the sounds and rhythms of language. These are the patterns that readers unconsciously register and which make them pay attention to your words.
This workshop, with award-winning poet Alice Major, will help you become more aware of the patterns in your own writing, so it can have greater impact.
Please come prepared with a brief passage or stanza of your own writing. This is not a critiquing workshop, but the sample will give you something to look at through the lens of sound during the exercises.
