The Writers Guild of Alberta is seeking applications by culturally diverse writers for its 2015 Borderlines Writers Circle.
The Borderlines Writers Circle exists to provide individual authors who may face cultural, linguistic, and other barriers to participating in Edmonton’s writing community, with opportunities to be introduced to the Canadian literary scene.
Selected candidates will work in a small group environment on custom-designed activities aimed at advancing their writing career and increasing their connection with the local community. The writers will be featured in public performances throughout the year, as well as given the opportunity for one-on-one support.
The program will run from June, 2015 to February, 2016. Participation in the Borderlines Writers Circle is free of charge, and writers will be remunerated for public readings whenever possible.
To qualify for this project candidates must meet the following criteria:
- The writer comes from a culturally diverse background and is not established in Canada’s mainstream literary scene.
- The writer has a working knowledge of English.
- The writer is a Canadian citizen, refugee or landed immigrant, living in or around Edmonton.
- The writer is available to attend evening readings/activities on a regular basis (average two per month), to present/perform at events a few times throughout the duration of the project, and to attend a four day writing retreat.
Applications must be received by May 29, 2015. (Please note this is not a postmark deadline).
Interested writers should send a completed copy of the application form by email to [email protected] or by post to
