The Writers’ Guild of Alberta and Yoga Santosha will offer a series of 3 weekly yoga and writing workshops intended to explore the therapeutic overlap between physical movement and creative writing. Lisa and Sam will share prompts and readings throughout each unique session exploring themes of clarity, impermanence, resilience, reconnection, compassion, heart, and how the pandemic has impacted us individually and collectively over the past two years.
The studio will be heated to a warm temperature to invite our physical bodies to drop more easily into imagination and transportive reflection as we weave between gentle (mostly yin) postures and exploratory writing time. Participants can choose to register for the full series or individual sessions. February 26 will be an opportunity to take stock of the present moment and to observe where (and why) we may feel stuck physically and emotionally; March 5 will explore postures, questions and notions of freedom, safety and release. March 12 will delve into the vulnerability and courage of heart opening, both in yoga and in storytelling. All sessions are intended to encourage ease in the body, peace to the spirit and creative flow to the mind.
No yoga or writing experience is required. Blocks and bolsters will be available at the studio to create comfortable sitting arrangements and writing surfaces. Please wear comfortable exercise/yoga clothes and be ready with a notebook and pen. In-studio writing will be longhand. For those who register to attend livestream, it is strongly recommended to create a quiet space at home with a yoga mat, at least two yoga blocks (or dictionaries!) and a bolster.
