Alberta Literary Competitions 2026 Entry Form

Please use the form below to submit your entry for the Alberta Literary Competitions, the Robert Kroetsch City of Edmonton Book Prize, and The City of Calgary W.O. Mitchell Book Prize.

Entries for the Howard O’Hagan Award for Short Story, the James H. Gray Award for Short Nonfiction, and the Jon Whyte Memorial Essay Award are to be uploaded via this form as Word or PDF files.

For book awards, use the form to enter award information, but book copies must be delivered to the Writers’ Guild of Alberta’s head office. We are not able to accept electronic files for books.

For the Gwen Pharis Ringwood Award for Drama, plays can either be uploaded electronically or copies can be mailed in to the Writers’ Guild of Alberta’s head officeIf sending physical books/copies of plays for the Gwen Pharis Ringwood Award for Drama, you can just upload a Word document into the form as a placeholder (the text of the document can read “books/scripts are coming in the mail” or something along those lines).

You will receive a link to an online credit card payment page after submitting the form, but payment may also be made by cheque.

Please refer to the Alberta Literary Competitions submission guidelines for award eligibility. Our awards FAQ provides answers to common questions about the guidelines. Please send all other questions to the Writers’ Guild of Alberta’s head office.

After submitting this form, you should receive an automatic confirmation email. If you do not receive a confirmation email, and it is not in your spam folder, please let us know–if you do not receive the email, your submission may not have been received.

Please note: If your book is entered in more than one award category we will need five copies per category.

All entry fees and materials must be submitted no later than December 1, 2025 – cheques and books postmarked later than December 1 may not be received in time and could result in an entry being ineligible.

Due to the volume of entries, the WGA staff are unable to contact entrants to confirm receipt of books; if you wish to be notified that your books have been delivered, we recommend shipping by a method that includes package tracking updates from the shipper.

It is the responsibility of the submitting individual or publisher to ensure that the required copies of all books entered in the Alberta Literary Awards reach the WGA offices by the December 1st deadline. Please take potential factors such as disruptions in postal services, delivery times due to distance and weather conditions, etc. into account when sending your books.  If there are extenuating circumstances that delay your books or entry fee payment, please contact us before December 1 and the staff can discuss arrangements with you.
