Join the WGA and author Lisa Pasold for a discussion about the evolution of a daily writing practice, be it journaling or fiction, poetry or quickly-jotted observation. We will discuss how a daily practice is an anchor, creatively and spiritually, and how material from daily writing—interior, messy and private—can be shaped into crafted public work. The workshop includes a variety of writing prompts and approaches. Lisa Pasold is an award-winning novelist, journalist and poet. She has led writing workshops from Dawson City in the Yukon, to L.A. and Paris. Please visit www.lisapasold.com or read more below.

Lisa Pasold is a Canadian writer and journalist who lives part of the year in Paris. Her most recent book, ANY BRIGHT HORSE (published by Frontenac House in Calgary), was shortlisted for the Governor General’s Award. Her first book of poetry WEAVE, was hailed as a masterpiece by Geist.  Her second book of poetry, A BAD YEAR FOR JOURNALISTS, was nominated for an Alberta Book Award. The Globe and Mail called this new poetry collection “critical, darkly funny and painstakingly lyrical.”  Her debut novel, RATS OF LAS VEGAS, was described as “enticing as the lit-up Las Vegas strip and as satisfying as a winning hand at poker” by The Winnipeg Free Press.

Lisa creates walking tours inspired by research for her books. She has led story-telling walks all over Paris, telling stories and investigating the lives of writers throughout the centuries in the City of Light. She has also created story-telling walks for various locations in Canada.  Lisa is the host of PARIS NEXT STOP, a travel show about Paris on Discovery World. Each episode focuses on a single Paris neighbourhood, starting with a metro stop, and the shows are also available on youtube.

Lisa leads annual workshops about inspiration and about writing family history/memoir. She has taught Creative Writing at the American University in Paris, and has led workshops for the Paris Writers’ Workshop and WICE (Women’s Institute of Continuing Education, France). While writer-in-residence at the Berton Writer’s Retreat in Dawson City, Yukon, she organized a community writing workshop; in Toronto, she co-led a writing workshop for children in the Jane & Finch area. She has also led workshops at the American Library in Paris. As a journalist, Lisa has published articles in newspapers and magazines such as The Globe and Mail, The Chicago Tribune, The National Post, Billboard Magazine and The San Francisco Chronicle. She has also written for guidebooks such as Fodor’s, Time Out, and Michelin.
