Course Description:

Like writing poetry? Song lyrics? Drama?  How about writing ALL of them at the SAME TIME?!!  In this collaborative workshop, you will learn all the ins and outs of writing contemporary libretto!

(I know,  I know…you’re probably thinking what the heck is a libretto??  Or perhaps you are picturing a woman on a stage , wearing horns, singing at the top of her lungs in a foreign language.)  But writing modern opera isn’t like that at all!!

Together as writing team, we will work with composer Danielle Sosnowski to create a new piece of contemporary, topical opera.  You will get to hone your dramatic writing skills, your lyric writing skills and your musical  skills all at once!  More importantly, you will get to learn a unique artistic skill, and have  the opportunity to tell your own stories through the highly evocative language of opera.
