A “best of” selection of the poetry and visual art chosen for the forum will also be featured in an upcoming print anthology to be co-published by Calgary’s poetry publisher Frontenac House and House of Blue Skies and the RE:ACT Collective in April 2014.

We are looking for works about, or inspired by, the City of Calgary. We hope to articulate the experience of the city through creative language and art. What stories is our city ready to tell us through our poets and artists? What sings in our green spaces? What thrives in the fast lane? What struggles in the margins? What chatters in the Plus 15s? What two-steps in the alleys? What surprises us, wounds us, heals us, makes us run, or woos us to stay?

We are searching for works from writers and artists living in Calgary or the surrounding area, as well as expatriate Calgarians. Works from other writers and artists will also be considered as long as the theme is upheld.

Contributors whose pieces are accepted for the print anthology will be paid an honorarium and receive one contributor copy of the finished product.

Previous House of Blue Skies anthologies, Writing the Land (2007) and Home & Away (2009) were both bestsellers. Works from these anthologies were also featured on blueskiespoetry.ca prior to the launch of each print anthology.

blueskiespoetry.ca is a forum for emerging and established poets to find a wider audience for their work, with a particular emphasis on writing by Canadians.

Submission guidelines:
To submit your work, email 1-3 poems, 50 lines maximum each; or artwork in appropriate digital format, with “RE:ACT Project” in the subject line, to the Editors at [email protected].

Please include a short bio (50-75 words) with your submission, as well as your mailing address and phone number.

Simultaneous submissions are accepted, and previously published work may be considered if the artist can guarantee permissions for House of Blue Skies to reprint the work.

Submission deadline is June 1, 2013. The works will be published on blueskiespoetry.ca forum throughout 2013. Works for the print anthology will be selected by June 30, 2013.

In order to publish your previously unpublished poetry one time on blueskiespoetry.ca we require First North American Serial Rights. Upon publication, the Rights are returned to the poet. We request the Right to maintain all poems published indefinitely (without payment to the artist) in the blueskiespoetry.ca archives.
