Wax Poetry and Art Magazine is pleased to announce Poetry Contest #1.
Rules:
Residents of Calgary, Alberta are invited to submit poems for the first poetry contest from Wax Poetry and Art Magazine (after: Wax Mag). Poems representing every aspect of poetry are desired and shall be considered. Spoken word, free verse, experimental, and visual poems are welcome; sonnets, haiku, and other classic forms, also rhyme and non-rhyme. Political, nature, love poems, satire, comedy and all themes have a home here. Poets of every level of experience are invited to participate in this free contest.
The poem(s) submitted must be original to the person submitting the work. The work must not be under consideration for another contest or another publication and may not be entered into another contest or submitted to another publication until the Wax Mag contest winners are announced.
The poem(s) submitted must be previously unpublished in print format or in any open online format such as a blog or online magazine. Work viewable on private forums (such as a private Facebook profile) is not considered as published.
Maximum poem length is 20 lines, including the title. Poets may send a maximum of 3 poems in their submission. Only one poem per poet may be chosen as a winner. Poems submitted to any Wax Mag contest are disqualified from consideration for future Wax Mag contests.
Contest entries must be sent by email to [email protected] by midnight of December 15, 2012.
Contest entries should be pasted into the body of the email or attached as a MS Word document. Please ensure your submission is properly edited for spelling and grammar and is free of typographical errors.
In the body of your email, please include a biographical note of 100 words or fewer. If you are selected as a contest winner, this biography will be published with your name on the website and other places.
Please include your complete mailing address so you can receive your prize.
Please ensure your submission is complete prior to submitting.
Winners:
3 prizes of $30 will be awarded to 3 poets for 3 poems.
Winning poems will be selected based on demonstration of a unique, powerful, poetic voice as well as depth of investigation into the main themes represented, as determined by discretion of the editor.
By accepting the winning prize, you grant Wax Mag exclusive rights to first print publication of your poem for up to 12 months following the announcement of the winners, as well as the right to reprint the poem at a later date in an anthology. If the poem is not published within 12 months, all rights revert to the author. The cash prize is yours to keep and copyright remains with the author at all times.
Contest winners will be notified by January 31, 2013. Poems will be published later in the year.
Winners may also have the opportunity to present their poems at a performance sometime during the year.
